Theme: Entrepreneurship and Finance : Challenges for Research and the Society

Questions that will be discussed with participants:
  • Is the Covid-19 crisis likely to drastically change the landscape of entrepreneurship financing?
  • What can be considered as special about Belgium in the entrepreneurship world? Any noticeable difference between regions, beyond the mix public/private funding?
  • How is it best to get data for research in this area? What could be seen as an effective strategy?
  • Where will the most likely contributions to our understanding of the development of new ventures come from?
  • How can research in entrepreneurship lead to an impact in practice? Is there a way to reconcile the research and professional worlds?
  • -Many scale-ups tend to go to US for series C financing and IPO. This may contribute to brain/talents/jobs drains from EU to US. What could be done about this? How could EIF, for instance, be part of the solution?
  • -UK is known to have the lion share of Private Equity funds in Europe. Would Brexit change anything on the EU private equity dynamics?
